WE DID IT! I just finished my 4th and final year coaching the Cedar High Drill Team {mohey tawa} and it couldn't have been a more perfect ending to 4 amazing years! Deciding to quit was a hard decision that took lots of thought, but once I made the decision, I knew it was the right one. I could go on and on about the things I will miss about the girls, the job, the sport, but I wont. Instead, I've compiled the latest stories that have been done on our
Region & State Champion Team, in hopes that I'll never forget! Smile, Sparkle & Shine...

Team Transitioning After Transformation

In 2007, the first year McCall Scott coached Cedar High School’s Mohey Tawa, the drill team placed last at the region competition and did not qualify to go on to state.

The girls who were freshmen that year have been part of a significant transformation. In 2008 they swept the region competition and placed fifth at the state contest, in 2009 they swept region and placed second in the state contest, and this year they swept region and state, coming home with the state title and first place in all three categories.

This year six seniors will graduate with an accomplishment they can always be proud of, and Scott will be moving on as well.

She said her experience coaching Mohey Tawa was very rewarding, and when she started she knew she wanted to stay at least four years to see what she could do with the team. Now, with the state title under their belts, she feels it is a good time for her to move on and pursue other things.

“It was a hard decision, and it was one that took a lot of thought, because I love it … but I have treated it like a full-time job,” she said.

Scott also coaches the Southern Utah University drill team, the Waukeenyans, and owns Gravity Dance Studio.

She walks away with no regrets, with the team on top, she said.

Though she didn’t know who the new coach would be as of press time, she said she was confident the team would continue to be successful. The girls she’s leaving behind know what it takes to win.

“I’m sure they will just continue to get better and better,” Scott said.

There were five juniors, three sophomores and two freshmen on the team this year with the six seniors, and Scott said a team of 16 is a little small, but that was part of her strategy. It left fewer girls sitting out dances. The dancers had to try out for each routine, and all the girls were able to be in the military and kick routines. There were 12 in the dance routine.

When building the team Scott also intentionally kept the number of freshmen pretty small, which made for a more mature team. She said she found if dancers were cut their freshman year they usually tried out again for their sophomore year and were more ready.

Scott said the key to Mohey Tawa’s success was that it was treated like a sports team.

“I think we treated it like a sport instead of like a dance group or a dance class,” she said.

They focused on the competitive goal and did not get caught up in the drama that a group of teenage girls can often create. Scott had very strict rules on what they did and didn’t talk about inside and outside of practice, she said. Team issues stayed on the team and were resolved there.

She also had a rule that after a performance the girls and their parents were to let her be the coach. The parents’ job was just to compliment the girls and the girls shouldn’t tear themselves or the team down. If something needed to be addressed, she would address it, she said. This helped every performance to be a positive experience.

“If all they ever hear is negative than that’s all they’ll ever think,” she said.

The girls and their parents stuck to the rules and saw the payoff right away, she said.

Scott said in addition to claiming the state championship as a team, three seniors were recognized. Brittney Evans and Alexis Gonzalez made the academic all-state team, which means they were among the top 10 3A drill athletes in the state academically. A minimum 3.75 grade point average was required to apply.

Laurie Gregerson took second place in the state drilldown. At state, all the 3A drill team members were brought onto the floor and had to follow commands, military-style. Commands were given until all but three girls had been eliminated, Scott said.

At state, Mohey competed against 16 or 17 other teams. They took first in all three categories, including kick, which replaced prop/novelty at the state competition this year. Scott said last year there were rumors that would happen, so they competed with a kick routine at invitationals to help the girls get a feel for it and get feedback from judges.

Evans, team dance captain and Cedar High’s dance sterling scholar, said she was a little intimidated by the kick routine at first because she doesn’t feel like she’s very flexible, but she liked it. Prop was intimidating in a different way because nothing can be out of place and it’s more about “who can put on a better show,” which is more based on opinion. Though Mohey had done well in the past with the prop routine, they had also done well with kick and she felt good about the change.

“I think that a kick routine is a better evaluation of a dance team,” she said.

Scott said for her first two years coaching at CHS the team only focused on the routines they had to do at region and state, but the past two years she has been confident enough in the girls’ and they have branched out, competing in other categories at invitationals. This year they learned six or seven dances, including a hip-hop dance.

They also performed with the pep band this year, which hasn’t been done for about 25 years, but the school has a great pep band so it was a fun opportunity, she said.

Evans said her experience on Mohey was great, and getting the state championship this year was particularly rewarding. She said she went into the competition knowing they could do it, so she wasn’t surprised, but she was very pleased to be able to achieve what she and the other seniors had worked toward for four years.

“Our dreams came true,” she said. “I felt really accomplished.”

She said the team members have always had a close bond and been able to put the drama aside. Everyone on the team has been able to grow in one way or another, whether in their dance skills or as a person.

“Everyone can blossom on Mohey,” she said.

Evans credited their success to their hard work, the support of their parents and the school, and Scott, who’s been a great coach.

Cedar Sweeps 3A Drill Competition

OREM - McCall Scott couldn't exactly say she knew four years ago - when taking the Cedar drill team gig - that she was eventually going to have a state championship-caliber team.

After all, it didn't even get qualify for the meet.

But look at Scott's squad now: for the first time in a quarter century, the school has a state title in the sport.

Cedar swept all three 3A events - military, dance and kick - at the drill team state championships at Utah Valley University.

"It all came together this year," Scott said of a group that consists of six seniors. "We're the Cinderella team now. We came all the way up."

Canyon View, behind 3A coach of the year Krysten Reynolds, finished right behind Cedar with a sweep of second place in the three events.

Reynolds credited the unity of her team for Canyon View's first time in school history that it placed in all three events, plus top-5 overall.

With four seniors, Reynolds said, "There was just a drive to keep getting better; to do it everyday."

Several St. George-area competitors made postseason honors. In 2A, Jamie Croteau (Kanab), Ashley King (Kanab) and Kira Robinson (Kanab) were academic all-state. In 3A, selections were Alexis Gonzalez (Cedar) and Brittney Evans (Cedar).

There were also six all-state selections:

In 2A, Tausha Hansen (Beaver), Jamie Croteau (Kanab), Brittani Heidenriech (Parowan). While 3A included Jordon Howard (Canyon View), Brittney Evans (Cedar) and Madison Barney (Hurricane).

Duchesne won the 1A title by sweeping all three events, while South Sevier took 2A with first place in 2-of-3.

Also, Kanab was third overall in 2A after placing third in military and dance, and fourth in kick.

But the eight-hour day at the UVU events center belonged to Cedar. The military title was announced first, then dance and kick in the 25-minute awards ceremony.

Cedar sounded just as honored and genuinely pleased and surprised as each title rang in.

"We didn't expect to get all three," Scott said with tears in her eyes. "But we're so glad we did. I think that's the best part about all of this - not only that we did it, but how we did it."

Cooper finally lost his 1st tooth! He was starting to get anxious... I mean, he IS in first grade and will be 7 in April! 9-1-1.
We noticed a few weeks ago that he had "shark teeth" but nothing was moving, until he finally wiggled one loose, but couldn't get it out.
New Years Eve the boys were wrestling before heading to some friends house for a party, and out came the tooth!
No tears, just pure JOY!

My friend Trinity makes these cute Toothfairy Pillows, and she made Cooper's in a flash! He was SO excited he took it to the New Years party. After the party he hung it on his bed post and fell asleep - hoping the Toothfairy would deliver... and she did! $1

Porter is now convinced he has loose teeth. Coop can't wait for the next wiggle...

Porter turned four today! some things we don't want to forget about our "dodo" are:

he started preschool and LOVES it - and Mrs. Danielle!
he stopped sucking his thumb about 3 months ago when he knocked his teeth and they were wiggly. he came downstairs the first night and told us he couldn't "belax" because he couldn't suck his thumb.
his best friends are talon, ammon, grey & maddie
he likes to play the "boyfriend/girlfriend" game with maddie. (we checked it out - it's safe)
he LOVES Coop
he is still quite shy, but SUPER funny

This year our summer was full of mini-excursions! Several fishing trips, a Mohey Sand Hollow trip, and a Lake Powell weekend gave us our water fix! Cooper was busy with t-ball and lizzard catching. Jaren took the boys on their first hunting trip and had his 10 year missionary reunion. I went to a few dance camps and on a few girls girls trips and had my 10 year class reunion. We enjoyed a garden that Jaren planted, and really LOVED being in our house!

I feel flustered. A little deflated. But SO excited!
Registration at the dance studio begins tomorrow. I am not flustered that I'm busy, or that the studio won't be ready, or that I don't think anyone will come to register.
I'm frustrated over things I can't control.
Since Jaren & I decided that this was an endeavor worth taking on, I have TRULY tried to be professional. It may seem that my coaching position at both the high school and college my be a conflict with a private studio, but I have taken EVERY precaution to make sure it doesn't. I was very open and honest with my dancers and their parents about my intentions. I don't talk about or promote the studio at either team's practice. I haven't encouraged my dancers to come to my studio, or discouraged them from taking anywhere else. I also sent a letter (which I did NOT need to do) to the other studio directors in town, letting them know of my intentions, that I was not trying to "take" their students or hurt their programs in any way.
I just want to be another option!
I am frustrated that others haven't chosen to be professional. I feel deflated that everything positive I am trying to offer is being challenged, or suddenly topped. I am hurt that people I considered friends feel more like enemies.
I guess competition does funny things to people.
BUT... I am SO excited by the positive response I have received! I am confident in the curriculum we offer. I am so proud of my staff and what they will offer. I am eager for everyone to see the studio we have worked so hard on. I am GRATEFUL for good friends who have been encouraging, come to help, defended me, "made the move," and will eventually :). I am proud of myself for taking the high road - it has NOT been easy!!! I vow to continue on that road.
I do not regret - for one second - this decision. I do not doubt that it will be successful.
But I can only control my actions!

2 weeks ago Jaren went to Colorado for a business trip. He left early Monday (Memorial day) and returned Friday - with a turtle! He and his boss found 3 box turtles walking along the road after it had rained. His boss had been there before and brought one home, so Jaren grabbed one and his boss took the other 2.

THE BOYS WERE SO EXCITED!

He got home with the turtle Friday afternoon, just as I was leaving for Vegas. The boys couldn't have been more anxious to see the turtle, name him, buy him a home...

I got a text telling me they named him Ben 10.

Saturday I was at the mall and got another text that Ben 10 was MIA. GONE.
Cooper had been at a birthday party and Jaren was getting the boat ready to take the boys fishing and left Porter outside playing with Ben 10. He let him go. THE TURTLE RAN AWAY. Porter plead the fifth. Jaren searched. The neighbors searched (seriously). Cooper cried. Wailed actually. Porter got in trouble. Still, no turtle.
THIS is where the story gets good...
We were outside after dinner tonight, opened the door to the little garage, and there was Ben 10! Just chillin' in the garage like nobody's business. Totally alive! 10 days later.

I bought Coop this "bug barn" at Big Lots and did I ever hit the Lotto!!!

Yes, Porter insists on wearing his helmet 24/7. He poked a stink bug with a toothpick and carried it around while the bug squirmed.

Cooper made it through his first year of school! Hooray! He LOVED school and was above average on all of his testing. His teacher was Michelle Vasi, who we LOVE.
He was in the p.m. class with most of the other kids in the neighborhood.

We heard some GREAT stories from Cooper throughout the year.
Stories that I don't want to forget!

Coopers favorite things about Kindergarten were the "show and teach bucket," PE and recess. He did not like Power Hour.

He told us that at recess the girls would line up to whisper in his ear that they wanted to marry him cuz he's the hottest one in the class. WOW.

He is CERTAIN that he is the best, fastest, strongest etc. at
whatever they do in PE or at recess.
Wednesday was "crazy hair day" at school. Cooper wanted blue hair. He wanted me to take a picture with a mean face, to go with his hair. 100% his idea.

Just because I bleached his hair and then added permanent blue does not make me a bad mom, right? I was just participating :)

He said they voted in his class for who had the best hair. Everyone voted for Cooper, INCLUDING COOPER, except for 1 boy.
He voted for himself and got 2nd.

At the end of the year swimming party, he told me that when he takes his shirt off at the pool, all the girls will probably scream. SERIOUSLY.

Aside from being VERY confident, he really is a sweet boy. He gets his chores done, is usually nice to Porter, works hard with his dad at the farm, is nice to kids and adults alike, and is fun to be around. We are so proud of him and look forward to many more years of great stories!!!

The cat is out of the bag... I'm opening a dance studio this fall! Before you freak out about me have 4 jobs {all of which I happen to LOVE} believe me when I say 1. I can handle it and 2. it's not what it seems
After becoming more and more involved in the "dance world" in Cedar in the 5 years we have been here I have realized a few things: 1. there are many dancers and parents who have not found the "right" studio for them 2. there are so many incredible dancers/teachers here who are not being utilized because they don't have the opportunity - it is my intention to provide another "option" for dancers and the "opportunity" for teachers!
I plan to act as the director, overseeing the program as a whole, not teaching the classes. I do intend to teach each class once a month. This will enable me to be at the studio 1 day a week, keep things moving in the direction I intend, and boss people around which is what I truly LOVE!!!
The studio will be named "gravity dance center" and will open in August. We are working now on a website, flyers, and just getting up and running!

Cooper turned 6 and we can't believe it!
The things I want to remember about Cooper being 6 are:
: i can't keep him entertained - he wants to be with friends constantly

People are awesome. Here is my proof. I went to the hospital to have my blood work done (i still have to go once a month until July) from the Molar Pregnancy. I signed in at the kiosk to register. I waited only a minute when a lady came out of the office and asked for "McCall?"
I stood up and said hi.
Here is how the rest of the conversation went:
lady(shocked): Oh, I was sure you had put your name in wrong.
me: Yeah, they usually file me as Scott McCall at the dentist. Haha.

Saturday was Jare's 30th Birthday! What an OLDIE!!!
It was a good day... went to the gym, got massages, played with the boys, then headed to SG for "dinner with friends." I told him earlier in the week that we were going to dinner with Downeys, Wells, and Slacks (Jaren & Ryan share the same b-day) in SG. He is didn't ask questions.
BUT Steph and I had planned a SURPRISE birthday party!

It was fun! Everyone met at the Pasta Factory at 6 and we showed up a little after. Both Jaren & Ryan were totally surprised. It was a fun night! Thanks to everyone who came (especially our Cedar friends who drove down) and kept it a surprise.
I think the biggest surprise was that I kept it a secret!!!

Happy Birthday Jare! Thanks for all you do for the boys and I - you are an AWESOME dad and husband. We love you!

The State Drill Team Competition was held yesterday at UVU. It still seems like it's not real, but the results don't lie: WE PLACED 2ND OVERALL !!!
What an accomplishment for a team that 2 years ago placed last at Region and didn't make it to State, then last year swept Region and placed 5th at State. Normally a team doesn't "disrupt" the order of the top 5 teams at State... but we're not normal! We beat the "big teams" who are all moving to 4A schools next year including: Logan, Ogden, Bear River and Union.
When asked by a reporter what is different about this team, my answer was that, aside from the hard work and dedication that all Drill Team members display, our team has no (well maybe very little) drama. If you've ever been on a team of girls, or just had a group of girlfriends who spend on average 12 hours a week together, you know that that is not an easy feat.
It has been an honor to watch them grow up and become little ladies! My girls have learned to be responsible, respectful, kind, gracious as losers and winners, and fun girls to be around. They are girls who are at least 10 years younger than I am, but I ENJOY being around. They are funny without being crude, silly without being annoying, and know when it's time to turn it on and off.
I am so proud of them and can't wait to see them continue to achieve their goals! Next year we are going for #1!

We SWEPT Region for the 2nd year in a row! It was an awesome day! I will post the videos of the routines as soon as I can.
State is this Saturday at UVU. We have a good chance of winning. Our goal is to place top 3.

We attended our third and final competition before region and state in Richfield this weekend. It was a good competition and we did very well. We placed 2nd in every category. Uintah beat us - they are the reigning STATE CHAMPS! We were VERY close to beating them in 2 categories and that was awesome. We had lots of people from other schools tell us they thought we should have beat them, but didin't because they hold the title.
REGION is in 2 weeks. It's on Saturday, January 24 @ SUU. It's at 10am and will be over by 12. Cedar, Canyon View, Hurricane, Dixie and Snow Canyon will all be there. I would LOVE to see you there (cheering for Cedar of course.) I'll put a countdown on my blog because I've had lots of people ask when it is! Hope to see you there....

We had dinner with most of the Scott family, had some musical numbers, played a game, acted out the nativity scene, and opened jammas!

And ended with a wonderful Christmas day...

The boys were so cute! Grateful for every present they got [seriously, there were WAY too many], excited to see Mimi & Terry and Kat, Tony & Kahlil, and completely EXHAUSTED when the day was over!
We had a great Holiday Season this year, and are anxious to start a new year!

I finished my 15th and final batch of Christmas candy yesterday! This year I did 14 flavors (I did double batches of cinnamon). This candy is a tradition for us to give each year.
While finishing the candy, I sent the boys out to play in the snow... and there was plenty of it! We have had TONS of snow in Cedar this week, and I love it! I love the feeling of being surrounded by pretty white snow and the mystery of knowing if and when it will stop.

Yes, it's true! At our competition at Jordan High School we [Southern Utah coaches] were called to the announcers table on Saturday at about 7pm and told we could not travel home that night. Bummer. Thankfully the Country Inn & Suites had enough rooms to keep us warm until we could leave Sunday morning.
As for the competition we did well: 1st in Kick, 2nd in Prop and Dance, and 4th in Military. We were really disappointed [confused and mad] with the 4th place. We at least deserved 2nd or 3rd, but what do you do - that's the sport! It's probably good for the girls not to get to confident with placing high in all the routines. Logan beat us. They placed 2nd at State last year, but I know we can beat them. In Prop we had a 2 point safety penalty for a girl stepping on a prop - without the penalty we would have had 1st!
Now for the 100% McCall moment: our "rival school" had made some accusations over the last week about our sportsmanship - or lack of - which is TOTALLY unfounded and untrue. HONESTLY. So... at awards we beat them by a lot in Dance, they beat us by a little in Military, and we were certain they had beat us in Prop, like they had the competition before. When they announced Cedar as 2nd and hadn't announced CV at all, we assumed they had 1st. WRONG. Emery won. And when they announced it I JUMPED out of my seat, shot my hands in the air and yelled "YEAH!" Then dropped back to my seat as fast as possible. How embarrassing! The CV parents were right behind us. Oh well, that's the game right!

We did it!
We had our first competition this weekend and we ROCKED! We placed 1st in Military, Dance & Kick. 2nd in Prop. 1st in the 3A Division and 1st Place OVERALL at the competition! Canyon View (our rival school) beat us in Prop - so we need to really work on it for this weekend. This weekend is the biggest competition (besides region & state) at Jordan High School. All the "big" teams will be there. Last year we placed 5th in State and the teams that beat us will all be there.
I am so proud of my girls! This is when all the early mornings pay off! One competition down... 4 more to go!

I spent 9 hours at the high school yesterday trying to CREATE a prop routine that we have to compete with in 2 WEEKS! I don't know how many Cokes & Diet Cokes I had.

I stopped counting.
This is the first year coaching that I haven't felt prepared for competition. Seriously no prop routine!
Here is how drill team goes in case you're not familiar: in order to qualify for State each team MUST compete with a Military, Dance and (it rotates between) Prop or Novelty Routine. Teams normally go to 3 invitationals before Region to get a feel for what the judges think. You can also compete with other routines like hip hop, lyrical, kick and officers at the invitationals, but not at Region.
This year I decided to compete with the required 3 and add Kick as well.
But we aren't ready.
Military, Dance & Kick are ready, but I don't have a Prop Routine.
Again, no Prop Routine and competition is in 2 weeks.

There was a high school football playoff game on Halloween night, and you KNOW I couldn't resist planning a halftime extravaganza! I'm finally posting the video that I promised. Here's a recap:
My high school team did the monster mash. They each chose a "character" (ie: fairy, clown, ladybug) and made a cute tutu which were the same - but different.
What you can't see is that my college team, who were dressed like Zombies, wandered into the stands during 2nd quarter and walked around being freaky.
As the high school team danced, the Zombies walked onto the track and by the end of monster mash, were standing right in front of the girls just staring at them.
Then my college girls did Thriller.
It was an AWESOME night - the crowd was in awe! The best part is that it was ALL A SURPRISE - nobody knew what we had planned! I wish it was bigger and it's a 6 min video, but my boys LOVE to watch it...enjoy!

At practice this morning, in the corner of the gym on the bleachers I saw a "Trapper Folder". Instantly I remembered the days of the "Trapper Keeper." I don't know if they make them like they used to - maybe they have evolved into the more "metro" folder, and the original keeper is gone?

Lisa Frank was always my favorite - and I LOVED coordinating my pencils, erasers, rulers and everything else, with the Lisa Frank design I had chosen for the year!

Friday night I got a call from my friend Stacy inviting us to a friends and family dinner at their new restaurant Haven in St George. IT WAS AMAZING! I'm going to rave - not just because it's Stacy's, but because it was so good and I want everyone to go!

They expected to open Friday and had a bunch of food that needed to be cooked, so they had a small private party. They did a limited menu... we had a spinach salad [jaren said it was the best salad he had ever had] to start, then the choice of salmon, fillet or rib eye [Camille got the fillet, the rest of us had the rib eye] with dutch oven potatoes [not your typical potatoes however]. The steaks were all topped with seasoned sauteed onions, and the meat comes from a butcher in Kanab. It was HONESTLY the first and ONLY time I have ever eaten a steak without A1. The meat they get is delivered daily and is the most aged steak in St George, it was so full of flavor and so tender!
OK let's talk about dessert. We had a made from scratch [EVERYTHING they serve is] chocolate cake with a hint of raspberry - heavenly!
The atmosphere is incredible, really nice, but not uncomfortable, loud but not annoying, cute waiters & waitresses, and a cool pass through window where you can see the cooks working!
The restaurant should open on Monday and is on Blackridge Drive [right by Design Theory]
Seriously... GO!

I haven't avoided blogging so long so my friends would continue to leave wonderful comments on Jaren's post (which I didn't know he even knew how to do), but because we haven't had our internet hooked up until today! BUT I'M BACK!
THANK YOU [sincerely] for the kind things you have said, the texts, phone calls, visits, thoughts and prayers.
I feel really good and am continuing to have blood tests weekly to make sure things are clear. The bummer is that I can't try for a baby again for about a year.
We HAVE had an action packed few weeks, which I will blog about shortly, including: moving into the house, an awesome 28th birthday, Jaren's hermaphrodite deer (he gets mad when I call it that, but it's a funny story), and more!
I am also very anxious to see what everyone else had blogged about over the last 3 weeks...

What A WOMAN!!

I know that many of you know this. I do, but I don't say it near enough. McCall is amazing! Endure for a bit as I brag about her. I love her and am so lucky to have her.

This weekend we moved in to our new house. Yes, the house that McCall designed, helped build, cleaned, general contracted, and now is decorating. It's been a big project and one that wouldn't have happened without her. I work in Milford and so I am gone from sunrise to sundown. She has handled the bidding process, overseen the work, and anything else.

Now that, in and of itself, is a feat for anyone. But she has done this while coaching the Cedar High dance team, the SUU dance team, cut hair one day a week, and taken care of two little boys and a husband. She hasn't just done these things, but she excels at them. She has taken both dance programs to new heights and is an amazing mother.

I'm not done. Monday we found out that McCall wasn't in-fact pregnant with a baby, but had a Molar pregnancy. So, yesterday she went into surgery and had a D @ C performed (if you want more details you can ask McCall or myself). I am so amazed at how she has handled it all. It has taken me 8 years to figure out that she just needs a little praise and someone to listen to her. I'm not as good at these as I should be, but I'm working on it.

Tomorrow is McCall's 28th Birthday. With the new house, surgery, and everything else going on I wanted to thank her. I am very proud of you, McCall!

Saturday was opening day of the Antelope Hunt Jaren has been looking forward to. He has been trying to draw out for this hunt for 4 years - and was he ever excited!
He took off Friday night after a day of preparations including: getting his new camper ready, packing, shopping, and crossing off EVERY item from his carefully prepared Excel Spreadsheet! A friend and fellow hunter [who did not draw out this year] went with him.
He had planned to come home Monday night and go back out the next weekend if needed, but I got the call Saturday afternoon while in SG that he got one!!!
He took the shot from 600 yards away and actually hit it twice [that's impressive I'm told] and is very happy with what he got. When he made the shot[s] Brock was a few hundred yards away and saw the whole thing, he was so excited and impressed he came flying toward Jaren on the Mule - Baja style - screaming, "You Rock! No Way!"
Jare came home last night and took the boys and I out for a night in the camper and treated us to another delicious mountain breakfast.
Next feat: the deer hunt!

I've always used Scrubbing Bubbles as my bathroom cleaner - until the last few months when I have been on a hunt for a new one. I think Scrubbing bubbles works really well, but SMELLS LIKE PEE!
I'm mostly looking for a bath/shower cleaner. I like the aerosol spray of Scrubbing Bubbles better than some of the "squirt" sprays I have tried.
Any suggestions?

After returning home from a barbecue Monday night, I turned on my recording of E! to catch up on what I'd missed over the long weekend, and was surprised by John McCain's choice for VP. While I had hopes of a McCain/Romney ticket, I was grew more and more excited as I googled Sarah Palin. I waited, however, to hear her speech at the Republican Convention last night, and I've grown from excited to ecstatic!
I know politics are a taboo subject, here are some of the reasons I will vote for McCain/Palin...

On Family:

From the inside, no family ever seems typical.

That’s how it is with us.

Our family has the same ups and downs as any other ... the same challenges and the same joys.

Sometimes even the greatest joys bring challenge.

On Government Spending:

While I was at it, I got rid of a few things in the governor’s office that I didn’t believe our citizens should have to pay for.

I also drive myself to work.

Tuesday was Coopers 1st day of Kindergarten, and he was SO EXCITED! He has a really cute teacher [Mrs Vasi] and lots of friends in his class. One of his best friends - and sometimes girlfriend - Haislee is in his class as well.

Cooper is smart and funny, nice most of the time, and very confident!
He loves ranch on everything, the Alvin and the Chipmunks CD, and Sponge Bob.
He has good handwriting, is a great athlete, and an awesome big brother.

Saturday, August 23 was the official date for the 4th annual "Wells Feast" - a huge get together in Pine Valley at the Wells family cabin. I don't think anyone got a final or official count, but I would guess there were at least 50 people there! It was fun to see lots of friends, mostly from Dixie High, and their cute kids.
Jaren & Mason cooked dutch oven, and everyone else brought something to share. The bounce house was a hit with the kids and the favorite game of the night was "corn hole."
We talked, ate, laughed, watched the kids, rode 4 wheelers, and ate more and more of Kistens AMAZING desserts!

It hit me this afternoon while driving around, how much I love living in Cedar. We have had generous afternoon showers every day this week, which happens every summer here, and I LOVE the summer rain. I started thinking of the things I love about Cedar, here are a few:
. summer showers
. 4 seasons
. bearable summers
. white Christmas's
. great friends for us as well as the boys
. awesome schools
. a great neighborhood that my kids can run around in for hours and be safe
. "low maintenance" people (you don't have to be dressed to kill to go to wal-mart)
. a "top 10" ranked university
. enough restaurants to satisfy, but keep you excited to go to St George on the weekend
. the small town feel (the way St George was when we grew up)
. gorgeous, lush lawns and gardens

I could keep going, but these are the things that came to mind today! I never in my life pictured myself raising a family in Cedar, but given the chance, I wouldn't' trade it for anywhere else!

I got back last night from my trip to Anaheim with the Waukeenyans. It was lots of fun, but it's nice to be home! Here are some of the highlights:
We left Sunday afternoon, my friend Janene & I each drove an SUU van full of girls. It was fun getting to know the team on the long drive there. Monday was a full day of dancing (for the girls at least). Janene and I hit the mall in the afternoon. Christina Milian was at the camp to learn some choreography for a new movie.
We also found this great Ice Cream stand on Harbor Blvd. It's called Joes Italian Ice & Ice Cream, and if you haven't been, it's definatly worth a trip!
Tuesday Janene and I spent some time at DownTown Disney, and got back to the Convention Center JUST IN TIME for "the earthquake". It was really scary and lasted about 15 seconds. Wednesday we shopped a little more and watched the girls perform - I have an incredible team this year! We made ANOTHER trip to Joes for one last treat before heading home early Thursday morning.

We left Wednesday afternoon and headed to Beaver Mountain for a short camping trip. I have been overwhelmed with the house, SUU dance camp (we leave Sunday for 5 days in Cali) and Mohey, oh and 2 crazy boys! Jaren had been asking to go camping, so I told him if he took care of EVERYTHING and I just had to show up, I was game. Well he did and it was great! Some of the highlights were: a great dutch oven dinner cooked by Jare (including dessert), a gorgeous camp site right by the lake, seeing the boys in nature and loving it, Coop the pyro, sharing a tent, a great breakfast, a long ride on the mule (UTV, not animal) and an even longer nap in the mountain air while Jaren shot his bow with the boys!

While it was fun to be in the mountains for a few hours, I am grateful I was not a Pioneer... props to those who crossed the plains so we can enjoy what we have here in Utah. If you ask us, it IS the place!

pine valley 2008

Every summer the Scotts (Jaren's immediate family) get together at a cabin in Pine Valley for a few days together. This year one goal was to get a family photo - who knew it could be SO DIFFICULT! Here are a few of my favorites; Porter is the crying blur in the 1st picture, and the family photos were all done with timers - hence the laughter:

After the traumatic photos, the 3 days were filled with lots of fun. We laughed, talked, played games, made crafts, relaxed, rode the ATV's, made a great dutch over dinner, spotlighted, shot guns, and massacred our favorite songs with SingStar (or SingSong, right Daisy?).

We can't wait for next year!

We started building a new house when we got back from Cabo, and it's now framed! We were fortunate enough to sell the house we built in Cedar 2 years ago, so we could build again. It is close to our last Cedar house and we couldn't be more excited for it to be done.

After a busy week at dance camp with Mohey, we actually had a free Saturday all together! So we packet a picnic and drove up Cedar Mountain to Duck Creek. The weather was PERFECT and we had so much fun. We fished, the kids got soaked, drove around and looked at deer (we stopped counted after seeing 30) and ate an ENTIRE box of Zingers! Oh Summer Days...

Call Me Crazy...

A few weeks ago I got a call from SUU offering me the position as The Waukeenyan Coach (SUU's Dance Team). The current coach had an opportunity in California she wanted to pursue, but didn't feel like she could leave until she found the "perfect" person to replace her... and she thought that person was me.
I got the details and thought & prayed about it, talked to Jaren, and decided to TAKE IT! But here's the kicker: I'm going to continue coaching at the High School as well. I took over that team 2 years ago and they went from placing LAST at Region to SWEEPING Region this past year! It has been SO rewarding and I LOVE the girls, so I can't walk away. The difference is the High School pays basically nothing, and the college pay is GREAT! i never took the high school position for the money, but I've realized that I love it, so I might as well get paid!!!
I knew, however, something had to give. So I decided to sell my half of the jeans business to Amanda (my partner) and give that up. It was a hard decision, but I still want to continue to do hair 1 day a week. It's a great social out for me, and I love the extra money. So I've worked out my schedule to accommodate high school and college practice (I'll start at 5:45am and finish at 8:30am) so that I won't have much time away from the boys. We already go to most of the college games, so this is just a way to get in free...right?
Whatever it is I'm really excited about my new endeavor. Wish me luck and thanks for indulging my ramblings! And if you're ever at an SUU event, cheer for the dancers!

"Him's Hair Is Red Like Me!"

About 6 weeks ago our friends, The Hills, cat had kittens. Porter has always LOVED their cat and I told Jaren that I wanted to get one for Porter. Coop has a dog (that lives at the bird property) which Porter is kind of nervous around, so a cat was NATURALLY the next best choice! Jaren does NOT love cats. I think they are great. The come and go as they please, don't poop on the grass, don't require a lot of affection or attention, and they keep the bugs and mice down!
So we got a cat.It IS an OUTDOOR CAT! Porter named him "Crabby Patty" (yep, the boys love Sponge Bob - Jaren included).

We picked him up Monday night. On the way home Porter was holding him and said to us, in the happiest voice ever, "Him's hair is red like me!" Priceless!

Best Of State

Jaren & I spent the weekend in Salt Lake for the Best of State Gala. Circle 4, where Jaren works, won and they asked Jaren to attend and accept the award. It was a Black Tie event, so I of course wouldn't pass it up! It was held at the Salt Palace in the Grand Ballroom. There were about 1,000 people there, and it was just like the Academy Awards (you can see Jare on the left side of the screen, there were 2 HUGE screens with images of the stage).

They served dinner and had presenters & guest performances. It was fun to get dressed up. We woke up Sunday and went to The Original Pancake House for breakfast and spent a few hours at Ikea before going back to St George to get the boys from my sister. They had tons of fun playing with their cousin, Kahlil. Thanks Kat & Anthony!

Bowling

It's unusual for us not to have plans on the weekend. We're either out of town, or busy with birds, jeans, t-ball or friends... but Memorial Day weekend was an exception. Since we left the boys while we went to Cabo, we decided THEY could choose what to do! Cooper chose bowling!

We had tons of fun bowling, then tried to go to "Kung Fu Panda", but Cooper informed us that it doesn't come out until June 6th. We ended up at Chilis for dinner and put the worn-out bowlers to bed early!

Saturday

Satuday was going home day... We didn't leave intil 3, but change was in the air! Camille and I went to the Pacifica pool one last time while the goys checked us out. We stopped at a SWEET Mexican mall, bought some seashells for Cooper, and headed to the airport. We found an Applebees on the way and stopped for food. It was one of the best meals we had while in Cabo!
We made it home safely, anxious to see the boys! We had a great time in Cabo! Had tons of fun, relaxed, laughed and made memories we won't forget... and gained so much weighed that our clothes we wore coming just didn't fit the same going - oh well. Thanks Schanks!

Friday

So Friday was our last FULL DAY in Cabo! We spent the day doing what we came to do... relaxing by the pool! we spent most of the day at the "Sky Pool" eating more nachos and drinking yet, more pina coladas!

We walked around the resort, bought some last minute items (Mexican Vanilla) and tried to take it all in...

Thursday

Thursday was fishing day.We got up early and drove to the marina (again) for a fishing trip that Jaren and Brandon had booked about a month before our trip. We had all taken anti-nausea medicine, so we were DROWSY! They sent the 4 of us out on a nice boat with 2 helpers (Mexican fisherman) and some live bait. We each caught a Jack Caravelle and then would fall asleep until the next person caught one!
The highlight of the day was Jaren catching a HUGE Marlin. It was over 8 feet long and I cant remember how much it weighed, but they said it would have won if we were in a tournament. It took him over an hour and a half to reel it in, and boy was he proud!

After the big catch, we all fell asleep again, and next thing we knew we were back at the dock! We relaxed the rest of the day, knowing tomorrow would be our last FULL DAY in Cabo!

Wednesday

Wednesday morning we drove back to the marina for a kayaking excursion! We rented kayaks and rode to "lovers beach" which is right next to the famous arches. The ride over wasn't too bad, it took us a little time to figure the whole paddle thing out, but we got there pretty quickly and with smiles on. The island was pretty and there were some guys "skimming" on the opposite side of the island, which was fun to watch, and then we got ready to go back. As we loaded the kayak we made a small loop and noticed a large group of sea lions on a rock! It was an awesome site!
Did I mention that Lovers Beach is near Divorce Beach (seriously)? Well, on the way back my temper set in. I kept hitting my hands on the side of the kayak and it hurt! I started yelling at Jaren, telling him it was because he had the better oar. He said we could trade but that his was for men and mine was for women and it wouldn't be easier, but of course I wanted to switch... until we switched and it wasn't any better, so I made him switch back. It went like that for the mile back to the marina... me yelling and swearing at everyone and everything, and Jaren laughing. Dosen't that sound like fun? After we got back and checked the kayaks in we walked a little way up the beach and saw ... a jellyfish!
We relaxed the rest of the afternoon, and that evening Jaren and I went downtown to watch the Jazz/Laker game! We started in a restaurant right on the beach, but they closed at halftime, so we bar hopped until we found a place that would stay open until the game was over! Needless to say, we were the ONLY ones cheering for the Jazz and drinking Diet Coke and Sprite!

Tuesday

Tuesday was Camilles 28th Birthday, so Camille planned the day... and did we ever CELEBRATE!
The day began early with a trip to the marina to go Parasailing! Jaren & I went first (we got to ride double) and Camille flew solo after us. It was great flying 500 feet above the ocean on a Jose Cuervo parachute!
We stopped at Costco (again) for steaks and a Costco cake for Camille, which is her FAVORITE dessert in the world! We made it back just in time for water aerobics with an instructor named Miguel - that was definitely one of the highlights of the trip...seriously! We then had more nachos and pina coladas by the pool before going to the spa for the BEST spa treatment I've EVER had. Really.
We went back and took a nap and woke up to a barbeque made by the guys! The only thing that would have made it better would have been to watch American Idol that night! Other than that it was a GREAT DAY!

Monday

Monday morning Camille and I got dropped of at the marina to do some "Mexican Shopping." We each got a few things, nothing THAT amazing, but had fun!
While in Cabo I started, and almost finished, the Twilight series. I'm sure I'm the last person on the planet to do so, but I got the books for my birthday and held on to them to read on Vacation... which was perfect! They definitely lived up to the hype. (Jaren even read them while we were there)
We spent the afternoon reading and relaxing by the pool.

Sunday

OK, I haven't done very well with the day-by-day posting!
Sunday: We woke up and went to church. We chose a Spanish ward to go to so we would get the "real experience." The chapel was small and was filled with folding chairs - no pews. We we welcomed by EVERYONE who came to church that day, and there were all kinds! It was fast Sunday which meant testimony meeting, and I could not believe how eager they all were to share their testimonies. Although we don't speak Spanish (shocker!), we could understand enough, and Brandon could translate what they were saying and you could certainly feel the Spirit. The thing that stood out the most about their testimonies was that no one told stories of their kids, or soccer teams, or family vacations - they were all testimonies of Jesus Christ. The closing song was "I Believe In Christ" which we sung in Spanish (again, shocker!) and there was not a dry eye in the chapel. It's been a long time since I've felt the Spirit so strong... it was incredible!

Since it was Mothers Day we had reservations for a Champagne Brunch after church. I had a hard time with the food while we were in Cabo - everything made me nervous. It was very nice, but I think I'm not a buffet in Mexico kind of gal! This iguana was happy to eat what we didn't...
After church we went back to a different resort, but on the same property. It's called the Pacifica, and if you've watched The Bachelor this season, it was a destination date! It is a holistic resort, so it is very quiet, no kids allowed, and so peaceful. We stayed there a few hours and enjoyed our Pina Colada's by the pool.

We decided to take a nice Sunday drive to Todos Santos, a small "historical" town about 40 miles away. It was mentioned in all the books as a beautiful place to visit and shop. It was the ugliest drive that lasted FOREVER - and when we got there, the town was closed!!! We were all kind of grumpy on the LONG drive back. Luckily we had a GALLON of cheddar cheese waiting for us!!!

The Cabo Report:

We're back! We had the BEST time in Cabo! I'm going to do a day-by-day of our vacation (mostly so I don't have a ginormous post). But first... a HUGE thanks to Daisy and fam, as well as Nanny & Papa for watching the boys! We owe you BIG TIME!!!
Saturday: We arrived in Cabo on Saturday afternoon. Brandon & Camille met us at the airport and we drove to the resort...

...which was an INCREDIBLE 2 story, 3 bedroom, 4 bath villa with a private pool & jacuzzi. We took the downstairs and the Schanks took the upstairs. Jaren & I each had our own HUGE bathroom, which was great (he leaves the bathroom super swampy)! Aside from being gorgeous, it was so convenient to have a full kitchen - but can I tell you, we are so SICK of quesadillas, costco cake, granola and chips & cheese.
We spent most of the day looking around, we stopped at Costco for water and snacks, and made plans for the rest of the week! Here's Jare on our favorite chairs at the resort.

Countdown to Cabo

It's finally close enough I think I can start the
Coundown to Cabo!
We leave this coming Saturday really early and will stay in Cabo (this is a photo of where we are staying) until the following Saturday - we are so excited! We are traveling with our good friends Brandon & Camille Schank and NO KIDS. We have some fun things planned like relaxing, para sailing (for Camilles birthday on Tuesday), deep sea fishing (thats what the guys want to do) and whatever else we want! We're open for suggestions if anyone has a "must do while in Cabo," so leave a post and let me know!

Baby Birdy Daddy

Jaren left at 4:00am Wednesday morning to go get the baby pheasants. He and his "partner" (as Coop calls him) Brandon drove to Green River to pick up 3500 baby birds. They pick them up the day they hatch, load them into boxes in the back of the car, and drive them back to the farm in Milford. They are SO cute, when they are little! They are about the size of your thumb and really fluffy!

They are very temperamental when they are small and he stays with them, just like a new mommy watching her baby, and checks them every few hours - even during the night. They have large brooders (heaters) to keep the temperature a consistent 98* and you can see the waterers hanging from the ceiling that let them drink. After the first few days and nights they are less sensitive and can slowly be left alone for longer periods of time.

In a few weeks they will be let outside to grow into big pheasants that he sells to gun clubs for people to hunt! Isn't that sweet? He will sell 6000 this year, so in a few months he'll get a new bunch of birds and start all over. It's nice to have a place for Jaren to take the boys to work. That is something we have always wanted them to have. It's also nice that a hobby for Jaren also makes awesome money on the side!

Say Apple...

Sunday morning after Jare made pancakes and "bancon" for breakfast, the boys were wrestling on the family room floor. Cooper has mastered the "10 Fruits" game (you know, pin someone down and tap on their chest bone until they can come up with 10 fruits), so Jaren has recently moved on to Porter. He started with just 1 fruit...Apple. Porter knows how the game works, but he is seriously SO STUBBORN that he WILL NOT say it. Jaren tried for at least 3 minutes, which is a long time when you think about it, and could NOT get him to say it. I came in after 2 minutes to work the mommy magic, but that didn't work either. Finally we were laughing so hard, we just let him get up.
I'm sure to someone on the outside looking in we looked like freaks. Cooper, Jaren & I all hovered over Porter BEGGING him to say Apple. He still wouldn't say it after we let him up!

Future Missionary

When I picked Cooper up from preschool, my friend Amanda walked out with her little girl as I walked in. She was laughing and asked me who was coming over at 5? I told her no one... as far as I knew.
Apparently Cooper told his preschool teacher, class, and the moms when they came to get their preschoolers, that he was really busy with an important meeting at 5:00 - it was a meeting to teach people about Jesus. According to Cooper, some people don't know about Jesus and HE needs to teach them.
I wasn't sure if I should address the great desire he has to do missionary work... or the lie.

Coop's Ninja Party

Cooper turned five this week - we can hardly believe it! He wanted to have a "Ninja" party, not Ninja Turtles, just Ninjas. We had lots of fun, the invitations to the BOYS ONLY party had a "secret code" the kids had to de-code, we played lots of Ninja-ish games (Simon says became Sensei says) ate pizza and cupcakes, opened presents and finished with a sword fight! What more could little boys ask for!

Weekend Getaway

We had an action packed few days this weekend! Here are some of the highlights:

Cooper has been wrestling with the "Canyon View Jr Wrestling" program and has actually done really well! We took him to Nephi on Friday and Saturday for the State Wrestling Tournament and he placed 3rd! His record for the year is 10 wins and 3 losses! He doesn't really care what place he gets, as long as they give him a medal...

So after we finished with wrestling, we headed to Park City with our friends, the Hills, for the rest of the weekend. We had a great time, we shopped, ate, swam, watched some conference, and shopped some more!

And as you can see, Coop was BEAT!
Fortunately he had his new military outfit on.
We had a great time and are really proud of Coop!
